A town hall car park has become a drug den, a council's planning chief has warned.

Several incidents of drug taking and anti-social behaviour have been reported by staff at Trafford Town Hall, with workers said to feel threatened.

Plans for security measures including a fence and barrier have now been made.

Trafford's head of planning Rebecca Coley said people were "regularly" taking drugs on the car park.

She said: "There will be some internal measures also to improve security for staff and members because of the various incidents that have taken place."

She explained the plans in response to Trafford Green Party councillor Dan Jerome's question why the council was spending £3,000 upgrading the car park.

The plans, including replacing a wooden bin store with a metal one, a new automatic barrier, and a 6ft 5ins (2m) fence, were approved.
