NOW THERE’S NO DISPUTING THAT THE BEST PLACE TO BE ON GAME DAY. OF COURSE, THAT’S IN SIDE ACRISURE STADIUM OR PNC PARK. BUT THERE’S A PUSH TONIGHT TO BUILD THE NEXT BEST THING. THIS IS PRETTY EXCITING. THE GROUP IS HOPING TO CREATE ONE SUPER SIZED REASON TO HEAD TO THE NORTH SHORE. EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T HAVE A TICKET RIGHT? RIGHT NOW, THE CORNER OF WEST GENERAL ROBINSON STREET AND MAZEROSKI WAY IS A PARKING LOT, BUT THAT COULD SOON CHANGE. IT’S GOING TO BE A MAJOR STEP IN ACTIVATING THE NORTH SHORE. TODAY, PROJECT LEADERS PRESENTED PLANS FOR A MASSIVE SCREEN TO PITTSBURGH’S PLANNING COMMISSION. THEY WANT TO ADD A 917 SQUARE FOOT LED VIDEO BOARD TO THE 30,000 SQUARE FOOT PLAZA THAT’S CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW. THIS IS A FOR A LARGE VIDEO DISPLAY, WHICH IS ONE SMALL BUT VERY IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF A GREATER PROJECT. IF APPROVED, IT WOULD GO IN A CURRENTLY BLANK PARKING GARAGE WALL. THE HOPE HERE IS TO CREATE A GATHERING PLACE ON GAME DAY. PEOPLE CAN COME GRAB A DRINK AND WATCH THE PIRATES OR STEELERS. AS WE TOOK THE PROPOSAL TO FANS. Pittsburgh's North Shore is closer to getting a massive new addition.On Tuesday, the City Planning Commission approved a large video display outside PNC Park. It would be located at the intersection of West General Robinson Street and Mazeroski Way. Project designers say the 917-square foot board will be slanted slightly downward to make it less visible from Interstate 279. It will also be surrounded by an entertainment plaza and trees. Shawn Gallagher, an attorney with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, said, "We're still developing the content, but whatever we're allowed to show, I think we'll show at the appropriate times."The proposal now heads to Pittsburgh City Council for review.
